Two possible options for Summary/Response Organization
ONE organizational plan for the Sum/Res
I. Introduction (1 paragraph)
A. Introduce the article by providing the title of the article and the author’s name, and perhaps a small amount of information about the author.
B. State the thesis for the essay
C. State your thesis for your essay
II. Summary: (1-2 paragraphs)
*Remember your summary should be in your own words and should include overt references to the author throughout (According to Smith…Smith further suggests… etc.).
A. Stage of Thought (SOT) 1
B. SOT 2
C. SOT 3
D. SOT 4
E. Etc. (You may have 4-8 stage of thought/sub points in your summary depending on the article/essay you choose.)
III. Response Section: (4-8 paragraphs)
A. Respond to SOT 1 by stating whether you agree or disagree and offer explanation and proof to defend your point of view.
B. Respond to SOT 2 in same manner, providing a good transition (agree/disagree)
C. Respond to SOT 3 in same manner (agree/disagreed)
D. Respond to SOT 4 in same manner (agree/disagreed)
E. ETC.

B. CULTURAL VIEW
a. Discuss connections of the topic to your CULTURE by explaining how the topic effects the culture with which you identify. For example: how does your specific culture’s views of divorce connect or differ from that of the author’s? (Remember to refer back to the article for specific ideas/SOT connections.)
C. SOCIETAL VIEW
a. Discuss connections of the topic to your SOCIETY by explaining how the topic effects our society. For example: how do Americans’ views of divorce connect or differ from that of the author’s? (Remember to refer back to the article for specific ideas/SOT connections.)
D. COMMUNITY VIEW
a. Discuss connections of the topic to your COMMUNITY by explaining how the topic effects the community in which you live. For example: how do Americans’ views of divorce connect or differ from that of the author’s? (Remember to refer back to the article for specific ideas/SOT connections.)
E. PERSONAL VIEW
